Paradigms are established set of assumptions or beliefs to look at the reality and often it
is difficult to overcomes those perceptions. I would like to set up my own food business of
healthy and organic vegan food in Saudi Arabia after education. There is general perception of
people in the country that vegan food is tasteless and have very few options. There is also very
less knowledge among people for organic food in the country. I had been planning to open a
restaurant for a long time, but the idea of opening a vegan friendly and only healthy and organic
food restaurant came in my mind after learning about paradigms and studying perception of
people in Saudi Arabia for organic and vegan food. This perception is true by considering the
existing trends in the country. But I would like to change perception of people by using my
knowledge about vegan and organic food which I gained in U.S.
I consider myself as paradigm shifter changing people’s perception about an existing fact.
I would change thinking of people about vegan and organic food and will make them aware
about the environmental consequences of meat and inorganic diet. People love meat in Saudi
Arabia and it is an integral part of their daily diet. So, there is paradigm paralysis among people
and they do not want to think beyond non-vegetarian diet. This will make my task of establishing
restaurant with vegan and organic food options difficult and I have to put a lot of efforts in
marketing and awareness program. Major portion of my budget would go for this. But I am
hopeful that by creating awareness about the harmful effects of meat consumption I would be
able to take people out of their paradigm paralysis. Paradigm effect is the differences in
perception because of different paradigms. Here, there is a lot of differences in paradigms about
vegan foods among people of Saudi and people of other countries like Australia. In countries like
Australia, and UAE concept of vegan has been growing rapidly and there are many restaurants
serving only organic and vegan food. I want to change this paradigm effect by making people
believe that a healthy, balanced, and tasty diet can be possible without meat. In my opinion here
paradigm principle of person most likely to shift the paradigm is an outsider apply. I was born
and bought up in Saudi, but only after coming to U.S. and by meeting people of different
countries I came to know about importance of being vegan. In early years it was difficult for me
to believe that their can be tasty and healthy food without meat. I had paradigm about food which
made it difficult for me to accept that how harmful our diet can be proved for the environment,
and animals. But once I realize it, I am confident I will make this thing realize to others as well.
People in Saudi may soon face consequences of unhealthy life style and eating habits by
suffering from many food related problems. Thus, this new idea actually appears before people
need it. Paradigm shifting is a slow process, but I have faith that I would get success in my
efforts.
