In your research paper, you should discuss some aspect(s) of the topic you chose, particularly as it relates to new discoveries you have made in the process of researching the topic. Note that the focus here will be on the information related to your topic, NOT on your personal research process. For example, avoid using statements like, “By researching the topic of ABC, I learned XYZ” Instead, write something like, “According to professionals in the field of ABC, XYZ.”
The structure or outline of your paper might look something like this:
Introduction to broader topic (1 paragraph)
Discussion of problem/issue (body of expository essay; 3-5 paragraphs)
Discussion of potential solution (body of argument essay; 3-5 paragraphs)
Additional areas of discussion based on new information or aspects of the issue you encountered in your research (3-5 paragraphs)
Conclusion that ties it all together (1 paragraph)
Following an outline like the one discussed above would easily yield at least 10 or 12 paragraphs.
Your research paper should be a minimum of 8 pages in length (2000 words) and include a Works Cited page with at least 5 scholarly sources. The entire document should be properly formatted in MLA style. You should be sure to include well-formed introduction and conclusion paragraphs, and your body paragraphs should be well-organized with clear topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph.
