Grand Canyon University Health Care Systems by 2030 Discussion Envision what the health care system of 2030 might look like? Describe at least two technological advancements that would be available to patients. How would technology help providers make health care decisions? How would patients and families interact with providers from their homes or in their communities? What would health care systems be able to do “in real time?” Problem 2
Suppose that the City of Atlanta has finally decided to approve a MARTA line through Emory. MARTA
has to ask members of the Emory community to contribute towards construction of the line. It starts with
the President and the Provost. Let my be the amount that the President contributes (in millions) and m2
be the amount that the Provost contributes in millions). Define m = mı + m2 as the total amount that
the President and Provost contribute. The President and Provost have the utility functions
U (mi, m2)
U (mi, m2)
6m – mº – mộ
6m – m – m
(a) Suppose that the President and Provost choose their contributions simultaneously. Find a pure-strategy
Nash equilibrium.
(b) Suppose now that the President is asked first how much she is willing to contribute. After observing
the President’s contribution, the Provost then decides how much to contribute. Find a pure-strategy
subgame-perfect equilibrium.
(c) Assume the President chooses her contribution level first and then the Provost chooses his contribution
level next as in Part (b). Suppose that the Provost gives the President an ultimatum. The Provost
threatens to contribute nothing unless the President contributes the amount you found in Part (a).
How much should the President contribute?
(d) If the President and Provost could set aside their differences and work together, what is the total
contribution level m that they should set? Is this value larger than the total contribution level when
the President and Provost are asked to separately contribute? Explain your result.
